From the article:
"Michael wrote a real page-turner that already seems suited for the big screen," Spielberg said of Pirate Latitudes. "Michael and I have had almost two decades of solid collaborations. Whenever I made a film from a Michael Crichton book or screenplay, I knew I was in good hands. Michael felt the same, and we like to think he still does."
Pirate Latitudes is scheduled for release on November 24, 2009.

I am sort of confused by this news item. The book is schedule only for late November- which is a good 3 months away. How could have Spielberg read this book? Are ARC's of PIRATE LATITUDES easily available now itself?
Anyway its good news. Cant wait to read the book and see the movie.Guess this will be a Spielberg project after the Tintin movie
I think Steven Spielberg can read anything in advance that he wants to. He's Steven Spielberg.
I'm not surprised by this given his long association with Michael Crichton. I'm sure Spielberg can be trusted not to give away any spoilers.
Advanced reading copies are NOT available, nor do I expect them to be. As I said, Spielberg is a special case. Pirate Latitudes is a strict-on-sale title, which means no one gets an advanced look. We can't even open the boxes at the bookstore until November 24. That's something publishers are very strict about.
